AKSG Opens Payroll Portal, Sets Feb. 15 Self-Verification Deadline
The Akwa Ibom State Government (AKSG) has taken a significant step toward strengthening transparency and efficiency in public service administration with the official launch of a dedicated online payroll portal for all public servants on the Unified State Payroll. The initiative forms part of the government’s broader digital transformation agenda aimed at modernizing governance processes and enhancing accountability across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
The announcement was made by the Ministry of Science and Digital Economy, which confirmed that the newly activated Public Servants’ Payroll Portal is now fully operational. According to the Ministry, the platform has been designed to provide government employees with secure, remote, and convenient access to their payroll information from any location.
With the introduction of the portal, public servants in Akwa Ibom State can now independently access and manage their personal payroll records without the need for physical visits to administrative offices. The digital system offers comprehensive access to essential payroll details, including monthly salaries, allowances, employment records, biodata information, deductions, tax records, and loan details.
This development is expected to significantly reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks and improve record accuracy across the public sector.
One of the key features of the portal is the availability of historical payslips dating back to June 2025. Officers can view, download, and store their payslips electronically, making it easier to track earnings over time, verify deductions, and resolve discrepancies where necessary. This feature eliminates the longstanding challenge of retrieving past payroll records and enhances financial documentation for personal and official purposes.
The platform also allows officers to download their payslips directly from their accounts, offering greater convenience and minimizing the need for paper documentation. By digitizing payroll access, the State Government aims to reduce administrative overhead costs while promoting environmentally friendly practices through reduced paper usage.
Beyond access to records, the payroll portal serves as a foundation for an upcoming statewide payroll self-verification exercise. The Ministry of Science and Digital Economy has advised all affected public servants to complete their portal access and self-verification process on or before February 15th, 2026. The deadline is considered critical, as the verification exercise seeks to ensure that payroll data across MDAs remains accurate, updated, and free from inconsistencies.
The self-verification initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen payroll integrity, eliminate errors, and prevent irregularities within the Unified State Payroll system. By empowering officers to confirm and update their information directly, the government aims to enhance data accuracy while fostering a culture of accountability among public servants.
Recognizing that not all employees may have access to smartphones, computers, or reliable internet services, the State Government has also introduced inclusive support measures. Self-service computer kiosks are being deployed across various MDAs to assist officers who may require technical support or lack personal digital devices. This inclusive approach ensures that every public servant, regardless of technological access, can participate in the verification process without difficulty.
In addition, each officer has been assigned a unique access code linked to their payroll profile. This code enables secure third-party verification of payslips when required, such as for financial transactions, loan applications, or official documentation processes.
While the system supports third-party verification, officers retain full control over their accounts and can independently complete their self-verification through the portal.
To begin the onboarding process, public servants are required to visit the official payroll portal at https://publicservants.akwaibomstate.gov.ng/employee/login and select the option designated for public servants without login credentials. From there, they can create access credentials, verify their details, and proceed with the required steps to complete their enrollment.
The Akwa Ibom State Government has reiterated its commitment to leveraging technology to improve governance, transparency, and service delivery. The launch of the payroll portal underscores the administration’s determination to build a more responsive and accountable public service system through digital innovation.
By digitizing payroll access and introducing a structured self-verification process, AKSG is setting a new standard for public sector management in the state. The initiative not only empowers public servants with greater control over their financial records but also strengthens institutional credibility and trust in government processes.
As the February 15th deadline approaches, public servants are strongly encouraged to complete their registration and verification promptly to avoid potential disruptions.
