The Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB) has announced an open call for applications from suitably qualified and experienced vendors to provide essential services in Smart Green Schools located across the 260 political wards of Enugu State. The initiative reflects the state government’s continued commitment to strengthening basic education by enhancing pupil welfare, promoting hygiene, and creating a conducive learning environment in public primary schools.

The Smart Green School initiative is a flagship education reform programme designed to modernize basic education infrastructure while integrating sustainability, innovation, and community participation. As part of efforts to ensure the smooth operation of these schools, ENSUBEB is engaging service providers at the grassroots level to support daily school activities, particularly in the areas of feeding and sanitation.

Available Service Areas

According to the official announcement, the Board is seeking vendors in two key categories: School Feeding Services and Cleaning and Sanitation Services.

Successful applicants will be deployed to Smart Green Schools within their respective political wards. By prioritizing ward-based engagement, ENSUBEB aims to promote local economic empowerment, encourage community ownership, and ensure effective monitoring of service delivery.

The school feeding component is expected to play a vital role in improving pupil attendance, concentration, and overall academic performance. Access to nutritious meals during school hours has been proven to boost learning outcomes while supporting the health and development of children. Eligibility and General Requirements

ENSUBEB has outlined clear eligibility criteria for all interested vendors. Applicants must possess relevant experience in the service area for which they are applying. They must also demonstrate the capacity to operate effectively within their assigned political ward and comply fully with the Board’s operational guidelines.

Importantly, applicants must be indigenes of and residents within the political ward where the Smart Green School is located. This requirement underscores the Board’s commitment to community participation and local accountability. Additionally, ENSUBEB emphasized that only one application is permitted per applicant. Any individual who submits multiple applications will be automatically disqualified.

Specific Requirements for School Feeding Vendors

For applicants seeking to provide school feeding services, prior experience in school feeding programmes or catering services is mandatory. Vendors must show evidence of their ability to prepare and supply safe, hygienic, and nutritious meals suitable for schoolchildren.

All food-handling staff are required to present valid medical fitness clearance certificates to ensure food safety standards are upheld. Vendors must also demonstrate the logistical and operational capacity to consistently deliver meals in line with approved nutritional guidelines and quality standards set by ENSUBEB.

Specific Requirements for Cleaning and Sanitation Vendors

Applicants interested in cleaning and sanitation services must possess proven experience in cleaning, janitorial, or sanitorial services. They are expected to have trained personnel, adequate cleaning equipment, and structured operational plans for maintaining high hygiene standards within school premises.

The Board expects cleaning vendors to ensure that classrooms, offices, restrooms, and surrounding school environments are kept neat, safe, and conducive for learning. Consistent sanitation practices will contribute significantly to pupils’ health and overall well-being.

Application Process and Deadline

Interested vendors are required to address their applications to the Executive Chairman, Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board.

All applications must be submitted on or before 30th January, 2026. ENSUBEB has clearly stated that late submissions will not be considered under any circumstances.

Shortlisting and Interview

Only shortlisted applicants will be invited for further screening. According to the Board, interviews for successful candidates are scheduled to hold on Thursday, 5th February, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. prompt at the ENSUBEB Headquarters, Enugu. Applicants are advised to ensure they meet all stated requirements before applying to avoid disqualification.
