FG Opens Free Admission for Federal Technical Colleges Nationwide 2026

This is to inform the candidates, parents and the general public that the Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the free admission into all Federal Technical Colleges in the country for the 2025/2026 academic session. The application portal opens from Monday 26th January, 2026. Parents are encouraged to enrol their wards for the admission

Government Commitment to Technical and Vocational Education

The decision for the free admission is part of the Federal Government’s plan and strategy to encourage young Nigerians to have interey Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) which is a key to economic growth.

This initiative emphasizes the Government’s commitment to the development of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) development through equipping young Nigerians with modern industry-relevant skills that will enhance their employability, promote entrepreneurship, and support national development.

Technical education has become priority to Nigerian Government to equip citizens with knowledge that will make them relevant to economic growth as industries continue to demand skilled workers in engineering, construction, ICT, and other technical sectors.

Free Education and Full Government Funding

According to a statement issued by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Boriowo Folasade, the Federal Government will fully sponsor the education of all successful candidates admitted into Federal Technical Colleges.

This funding covers students full tuition fees, academic expenses and essential technical training expenses. Students and their parents/guidance will not be making any payment as far as education of their wards is concerned.

Through this initiative, students will have more interest in technical educated the school’s enrolment is expected to increase.

Age Requirements and Eligibility Criteria

The programme is open to young Nigerians aged between 13 and 20 years. This will give students an advantage to begin their technical training early providing enough time to develop practical skills before pursuing further career in technical education.

Federal Technical Colleges are designed to provide both academic knowledge and practical training, ensuring students graduate with employable skills.

Courses and Technical Training Areas Available

Federal Technical Colleges offer training in a wide range of technical and vocational fields aligned with labour market needs.

How to Apply for Federal Technical College Admission 2026

Interested candidates are to submit their applications through the National Business and Technical Examinations Board website.

To register, visit the NABTEB portal, create an account using the required details, enter your National Identification Number (NIN), fill the application form and submit your application.

Applicants are advised to ensure all information provided is accurate and valid.

National Identification Number (NIN) Requirement

The Ministry has made the National Identification Number (NIN) as a mandatory requirement for application for applicants because it will be used to; Verify applicant’s identity, prevent duplicate applications and ensure transparency in the admission process.

Candidates without a NIN are advised to obtain one before applying.

Application Deadline and Entrance Examination Date

The application portal will remain open until Sunday May 24th, 2026.

After the closing of the registration, candidates will be invited to sit for the National Common Entrance Examination which is scheduled to hold Saturday June 6th, 2026.

The examination will be conducted nationwide

Successful candidates will be admitted into Federal Technical Colleges based on their performance.

Warning Against Fraudsters and Fake Agents

The Ministry of Education has warned parents, guardians, and applicants to avoid fraudsters and unauthorized agents.

You are advised to apply only through the NABTEB portal, avoid paying money to individuals admission processing.
