The Rivers State Government has announced the 2026 Graduate Job Fair, a landmark employment initiative aimed at tackling graduate unemployment and expanding career opportunities for young people across the state. The program is scheduled to hold on January 22nd, 2026, and forms part of the state’s broader strategy to empower youths with sustainable jobs and relevant skills for today’s labour market.
The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Employment and Empowerment Generation, Dr. Chisom Kenneth Gbali, under the leadership of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, whose administration has prioritised job creation, skills development, and private sector collaboration as key drivers of economic growth in Rivers State.
The Graduate Job Fair 2026 is designed to bridge the gap between graduates and employers by providing a single platform where job seekers can directly engage with companies, recruiters, and training institutions. Participants will have access to direct employment opportunities, internship placements, and vocational and professional skills training, making the programme beneficial not only to fresh graduates but also to those seeking career advancement or a change in career path.
One of the major highlights of the initiative is the participation of over 85 major companies across Nigeria, made possible through a strategic partnership with the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA). This collaboration ensures that participants are exposed to credible employers and real job opportunities across multiple industries.
The job fair will also provide career exposure in high-demand and future-focused sectors, including Oil and Gas/Energy, Blue Economy (Maritime, Shipping, and Marine Services), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). These sectors have been identified as key growth areas with strong potential for long-term employment and innovation.
Notably, the programme adopts the Quadruple Helix Model, which brings together government, the private sector, academic institutions, and civil society organisations. This integrated approach is aimed at ensuring that employment outcomes are not only immediate but also sustainable, aligning workforce skills with industry needs and economic realities.
