How to Retrieve New Nigerian Tax ID Using NIN

The Joint Revenue Board (JRB) has announced the launch of the new Nigerian Tax ID Portal coming into effect from January 1st, 2026. This new system is designed to make tax identification simpler, faster, and more secure for both individuals and businesses across Nigeria.

What Is Changing?

The new portal introduces a unified 13-digit Tax Identification Number (TIN) that will be used nationwide. This means Nigerians will have a single, harmonized identity for tax-related services instead of multiple fragmented systems.

For Individuals:

  • Use your 11-digit National Identification Number (NIN).
  • Ensure the details you provide match exactly with your records at NIMC.

For Businesses

  • Use your CAC registration number to retrieve your Tax ID.

Why This New System?

Unified Nationwide System
The new portal creates one standardized database for all taxpayers across Nigeria.

  • Easier Access to Services
It simplifies processes related to tax records, verification, and compliance.
  • Secure and Dedicated
The system is strictly for tax administration. It does not grant access to bank accounts or personal financial data, so users should remain assured of their financial security.

In Summary From January 1, 2026, Nigerians both individuals and businesses will transition to a centralized tax identification platform. With just your NIN or CAC number, you can easily retrieve your 13-digit Tax ID and enjoy a smoother, more efficient tax experience.
